Lauren Wiltshire
Art Educator and Mentor, Artist in Residence Newcastle Grammar School & Studio97
Lauren is a practicing artist in Muluubinba Carrington. She is a figurative abstract artist and emerging Indigenous artist who uses foraged charcoal to make paint and recycled natural fabrics to paint large scale pieces. Lauren’s style is modern and contemporary capturing the lines and marks that nature gifts us.
Lauren grew up on the coast of Newcastle, with family coming from Kamillaroi Country in Bingara & Inverell inland NSW. She studied Art Elements & Design Fundamentals at Newcastle Art school. Lauren dedicated time to starting a family and realised her passion was children and visual arts.
As an artist, Lauren has always practiced while raising a large family and has emersed herself in her own practice deeply since 2023, holding her first solo/duo show with her partner artist and photographer John Spyrakis and has participated in many various group and art prizes in independent art galleries.
Lauren opened her private dedicated children’s only art space called BASE in Hamilton South, 2022, after teaching children after school in her garage and now privately mentors children in various schools and preschools in Newcastle.
Lauren has been featured in Studio Visit Book Vol 6, a coffee table book dedicated to the creative processes and spaces of rising women in the arts.
Lauren has undergone Artist in Residence positions at Newcastle Grammar School, Nobby’s Lighthouse Art Project, Newcastle Youths Club and now at Studio97.
Lauren’s passion is introducing children, the next generation artists, to the Elements of Art, Fundamentals of Design and Art History but mostly - opening their eyes to how wonderful the world of art is and it’s many benefits it has on all our lives.
