The BASE Art Space Art Show is back for its third year. This year we are so happy to introduce you to the BASE Youth Art Prize! This much-loved Newcastle kids’ art show celebrates the amazing creativity of children. Each year, we’re blown away by the incredible talent and imagination these young artists showcase—whether they’re painting their favorite animals, people, places or creating works well beyond their years. Hundreds of incredible pieces of art have graced walls of independent galleries across Newcastle thanks to BASE Art Space and we can’t wait to see what 2025 brings1
As we embark on another year of celebrating young artists, the BASE Young Art Prize holds a special place in our hearts. Over the years, this competition has grown into a platform where children’s imaginations flourish, and their incredible talents take center stage.
This year we look a little different as we will be a 3 week exhibition to physically visit at Studio97 in Carrington and we will be open to all Australian children. You will just need to mail or drop your art work in, after submission online, to Studio97 in Carrington, Newcastle NSW to be part of the prize.
We couldn’t be prouder of how far it’s come, and it’s all thanks to the inspiring creativity of kids. Whether they just want to have a go or they have a masterpiece in mind, we love seeing every entry come through. Every piece of art is a reminder of why we started this journey: to nurture kids creativity and celebrate the magic of art!

What Makes This Youth Art Prize Special?
Our 2025 BASE Youth Art Prize invites young artists of all skill levels, from kinders with inspiration galore to preteens mastering techniques, to share their unique creations. With a focus on inclusivity and imagination, there’s no limit to what they can create!
Kids can submit anything from vibrant paintings and detailed sketches to inventive cartoons. It’s the perfect platform for your child to explore their favorite medium and let their creativity run wild.
Our open show event will be held on Sunday 23rd Nov at Studio97 for an open showcase of all the work in one place with the WINNERS ANNOUNCED at this event.
What Ages Can Participate?
This art competition for young people is open to youths up to 18 years old, with three age categories;
BASE Infant: 5-8years
BASE Primary: 9-12years
BASE High: 13-18 years
It costs $50 to submit your work to the prize, you can enter up to 3x pieces and all works will be physically hung and shown in the exhibition at Studio97 for 3 weeks for you to visit and bring your family to see your creativity on the physical walls!
Amazing Prizes Await
2025 BASE Youth Art Prize offers over $1,500 in prizes! The three grand prize winners will receive a prize pack valued over $500 each, which includes:
A special 2hr art and mentoring 1:1 session with BASE Art Space mentor or guest artist in the field of art preference.
BASE Art Space art supplies to keep those creative juices flowing – including all artist quality materials not limited to full sets of acrylic paints, water colour paints, sketch materials, specialty paper and visual diaries housed within premium BASE Art Space packaging.
$150 Visa Gift Card to use however they like.
Certificate and accreditation documents for selective school applications and scholarships.
